Anna Studied Fine Art at Minneapolis College of Art at the hight of the Conceptual Art movement. She had the privilege of working under many Artists now found in our finest museums. She continued self directed study through a program at Prescott College that allowed her to tour Museums, Cathedrals, and Early religious art sites all over Europe and the western United States earning a Fine Art degree. Anna went to work soon after as a freelance artist and muralist in the San Francisco Bay Area and later in Eastern Iowa. She has 2 murals on historical registries and is taught as part of the University of Iowa Art Curriculum for her Midwest Murals.
Throughout my life, my work has been heavily influenced by the requirements of single motherhood. To support my family I focused primarily on mural painting for the first 20 years of my career. I drew my inspiration from the natural world as it is my temple. I focused on figure drawing consistently through the years for my own enjoyments and expression, so this past decade of painting has been a blending of the skills of large scale painting with my love of the figure.
Scale has always been something that crops up in my work. I suppose it is my way of pushing the boundaries society puts on women to stay in their place, stay visible but not obtrusive, beautiful but not loud or too big. I love my women to show up. I find satisfaction in putting the passion of life into my work by creating tension on the canvas with tools of scale, drama, color and sensuality.
